Hudson Sourdough

What started as a hobby for Rocklin Hudson, quickly turned into a micro-bakery established in 2024 featuring freshly baked artisan sourdough bread. Family members wanted to buy bread for dinners they were hosting. Friends wanted to learn how to make sourdough themselves, prompting Rocklin to begin selling her starter.

Hudson Sourdough aims to serve 'those who value quality, handmade bread that is more easily digestible than modern store-bought bread and has none of the "bad stuff"' throughout Merced, Hilmar, Turlock, Modesto, and Ripon. Each loaf is made to order, over 12-48 hours with high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. Hudson Sourdough is available by order at select local Farmer's Markets and community events.

Sourdough is a two to three-day process that Rocklin begins on Wednesdays. Baking occurs on Thursdays and Fridays. As a result, all orders for a given week must be given by Tuesday. Thursdays are the earliest an order can be completed. Hudson Sourdough offers porch pick-up on all orders at no additional cost. Customers can also request to meet in the middle or have their order delivered for a fee which is dependent on mileage.

While her business has begun to flourish, Rocklin admits that one unexpected challenge she had to overcome was finding space to keep the loaves fresh. Her freezer was unable to meet the demands of her regular orders and stocking up inventory for local Farmer's Markets. As a result, she and her husband had to invest in a second, larger freezer to ensure the loaves retained their highest quality.

Hudson Sourdough states that in addition to purchasing bread, sharing their Instagram stories, responding to questions about upcoming flavors, and attending local Farmers' Markets they frequent are all ways to support their growing, small business.
